Talk 4 An Early Warning System ….. Public Awareness :PPT and Video
This event had four scientific talks. Summary of these are as below:
1. Atmospheric
Ozone; Good and Bad by Prof. Som Kumar Sharma (on 18 June 2018): Ozone in our atmosphere is one of the very important gases.
Stratospheric ozone is providing us a protective shield from harmful
ultraviolet radiation from the Sun and known as good ozone. Contrary to it
ozone in the troposphere is a pollutant and causing sever health hazards
and known as bad ozone. This talk discussed effect of good and bad ozone.
2. Impact of the Atmospheric Pollutants on the
Health of Living Beings by
Prof. Sohan Lal Jain (on 19 June 2018): The atmospheric
pollutants such as aerosols, Ozone, NOx SO2, CO etc are
health hazard for human being as well as animals and plants. In this talk
sources of these pollutants and their measurements were described. The impact
of the atmospheric pollutants on the health of living beings and agriculture
yield was highlighted.
3. Terrestrial Dust Storms and their Influence on Environment
and Society Prof. Som Kumar Sharma (on 20 June 2018) Dust storm is a meteorological phenomenon and common during
local summers. Dust particles of varying sizes are pumped into the atmosphere
during storms. These dust particles affect respiratory system, harm
sensitive lung tissue, can cause coughing, etc. Dust storms affect
visibility and modulate radiative balance of the atmosphere. In this talk
several effects of the dust storms were discussed.
4. An Early Warning System
for Air Quality and Public Awareness by Prof. Gufran Beig (on 21 June 2018) Air
Pollution and associated health impact is becoming increasingly an important
subject to mankind. It may lead to disability adjusted life and even death.
Understanding the problem is half the solution. This talk discussed on the
development path of India's first air quality forecasting system and the
information dissemination system. The system for community participation to
protect human health from its adverse impact was highlighted.
