Webinar 7 Introduction to Meteorology
This webinar consisited for four talks by Prof P C Joshi (former Course Director, SATMET). The summary of these talks are as below:
Talk 1. Evolution of the Meteorological Observations
Meteorological science needs many
observations over surface (including sub-surface) for both the land the oceanic
regions and over the atmosphere. Agrometeorological measurements over the land and
specific oceanic observations have been providing important input for
meteorology. Radar observations and the space observations have filled the gap
in conventional observations.
Talk 2. Basics of Weather Science
Science of meteorology has developed
significantly over the years. With availability of more observations, the
thermodynamics and the dynamics of the atmosphere is better understood. Basics of the meteorological science in relation
to contemporary science is discussed. The historical perspective and the
limitations of the science are highlighted.
Talk 3. Climate and the Climate Change
Climate and
climate variability are related with extended space and time scales. Climate
variability can occur due to natural causes and also due to human interference.
Improved observations have highlighted the change and in understanding the
reasons. The impact of climate change on society can be guessed from the
climate model simulations.
Talk 4. Meteorological Predictions
